Driver Airbag
The m o s t e ffe ctive o c c u p a n t re stra in t
system ye t d e ve lo p e d fo r use in p ro d ­
u c tio n v e h icle s is th e th re e -p o in t seat
belt. In som e cases, ho w e ver, the
p ro te c tiv e e ffe c t o f seat b e lts can be
fu rth e r e n ha nce d by an airbag.

The airbag (1) is lo ca te d in the s te e r­
ing w h ee l hub and, in c o n ju n c tio n
w ith w e arin g the seat b e lts w ith e m e r­
g e n cy te n s io n in g re tra c to rs (
vid es in cre a se d p ro te c tio n fo r the
driver.
The o p e ra tio n a l rea diness o f th e a ir­
bag s yste m is ve rifie d by th e in d ic a to r
lam p " S R S " (3) in th e in s tru m e n t
c lu s te r. If no fa u lt is d e te c te d , the
lam p w ill go o u t a fte r ap p ro x im a te ly
4 s e c o n d s ; a fte r th e lam p g o e s out,
th e system c o n tin u e s to m o n ito r the
c o m p o n e n ts and c irc u itry o f the air­
bag s yste m and w ill in d ica te a m al­
fu n c tio n by c o m in g on again.
The fo llo w in g sy s te m c o m p o n e n ts are
