Required Operating Parameters
Although individual units may vary slightly, the normal voltage and frequency of typical 60-(50-)hertz
engine-driven generators described in this manual are shown below.
Run the generator at first with no load applied, then at haff the generator's capacity, and finally
loaded to tts full capactty as indicated on the generator's data plate.

Voltage and Frequency
The output voltage should be checked periodically to ensure proper operation of the generator
and the appliances tt supplies.
If an AC voltmeter or ammeter is not installed to monitor voltage and load, check with a portable
meter.
NOTE: When the vessel in which the generator is installed contains AC
equipment of
120
volts only, it is recommended that the generator's
AC terminal block be configured to provide one
120
volt AC hot leg
for the vessel's distribution panel. This will ensure good motor starting
response from the generator.
Preventive Maintenance (Generator)
1. Keep the generator clean, dry and well-ventilated.
2. Make sure all connections are clean and tight and that cables carrying AC
vo~age
are
properly supported and protected against chafing.
3. The rear armature bearing is lubricated and sealed; therefore, no maintenance is required.
If the bearing becomes rough or noisy, replace
n.
4. Do not overload.
5. On starting up, allow the engine to warm up with no load. Then apply the load in steps.
