3.1

Cabling Connection Types

The cable and connector types described in this section are commonly used in many Comtech EF Data
products. Each cable type is typically dedicated to a specific mode of operation.
The CRS-170A L-Band 1:1 Redundancy Switch and its compatible Traffic and Redundant Modems may
not use all of these connector types.
The European EMC Directive (EN55022, EN50082-1) requires that you use properly shielded
cables for DATA I/O. These cables must be double-shielded from end-to-end, ensuring a
continuous ground shield.

3.1.1 Coaxial Cable Connections

Figure 3-1 show the coaxial cables (plugs) and their mating connectors (jacks/sockets) that Comtech EF
Data uses with their products: 'BNC', 'TNC', 'N', 'F', and 'SMA'.
