NGN network equipment can implement function separation of access,
control and transmission; access equipment is more flexible in
structure and richer in functions; access is closer to subscribers and
decentralized in space.
MG (Media Gateway) can be functionally divided into many types like TG
and AG for fitting NGN architecture better. The new NGN-based AG is to
be open subscriber access equipment that meets most of required
subscriber capacities; AG is rich in more flexible subscriber access
measures and features high concentration and compact structure.
China telecom industry has launched a variety of networks that are
running at the same time after years development, including traditional
circuit-switching
networks, like PSTN, DDN, ATM and IP networks. The wide coverage of the
telecom access networks results in huge investment, and the bases of
different networks lead to high network maintenance cost and operation
cost. This

telephony, fax and low-speed data services. They become more and more
dependent on high-speed Internet access, video telephone, VOD and other

On the basis of the existing PSTN, DDN, ATM and IP backbone
transmission networks, integrated access at the access layer will prevent
repeated network construction, save equipment investment and facilitate
operators' uniform management of equipment and services. Meanwhile, it
implements complete integration with the SDH/MSTP/IP base bearer
networks, and fully implements the narrowband voice, data access at
various speeds, xDSL/LAN and other broadband access at the subscriber
side. The diverse subscriber demands are met, and personalized services
can be provided according to the telecom operators, service demands and
subscriber groups. It will become a real narrowband/broadband integrated
access solution that majors in voice services and is smoothly compatible
with data services and broadband services for the operators.
