System Background

In the growth of telecom services, traditional telephony services and data
services are integrated into a uniform network, which is called the next
generation network (NGN). The NGN has passed the three stages of
laboratory, marketing promotion and scale applications. Thanks to efforts
of various manufacturers and operators, Softswitch is becoming
increasingly mature, functionally more diversified, more stable in
performance and more standardized, thus bringing Softswitch to the
market.
As an integrated network, the NGN has an open network architecture that
can provide voice, data and multimedia services. The transport layer of
the network is a packet network based on uniform protocols. The access
equipment of the network provides a wide variety of access measures for
subscribers. It converts different subscriber services into a uniform format
that can be transmitted in the network. In the NGN, the access equipment
is called a media access gateway (AG). The AG plays a critical role in the
NGN. With the most construction efforts and direct touch of subscribers, it
is the "antenna" of NGN.
The development of the NGN is not actually abrupt or revolutionary, but
an evolving process. During the evolution from the PSTN to the NGN, it is
important to maximize the protection of operators' early investment,
including the construction of twisted pair resources and the subscriber
interface resources in end offices. Despite an innovative technology, the
NGN has no innovations in the access mode for subscribers. As a result, it
is required to consider a smooth evolution in planning the transition from
telecom network to NGN, for both the telecom operators and the
equipment manufacturers. The NGN can be used in the planning where a
