Pressing the Enter key tells the program that you have
completed your message and are ready for the
information on your screen to be entered into the host
system. While your display station is signaling the
program, the X Qj (do not enter-time) message
appears in the operator information area, disabling your
keyboard. Most programs, when acting on an Enter key,
turn off the time message. However, this depends on the
program. If you are not familiar with the program's
response to an Enter key, refer to the appropriate user's
program guide.

Application programs can define the action that occurs
when any one of the PF keys is pressed.
To determine the use of each PF key and the action it
causes, refer to the appropriate user's program guide.
Recrd
Record
If there is a number, a word, a phrase, a sentence, or an
address you use often, you can use the Recrd key and a
PF key to save those characters (keystroke sequence).
Then each time you need the keystroke sequence, you
only need to press the Play key and a PF key to have the
keystroke sequence played back.
Each one of the 24 PF keys can be used to record a
keystroke sequence. However, the total number of
keystrokes that can be recorded for all of the 24 PF keys
is 96.
To record a keystroke sequence:
1.
With the display station turned on, press the Recrd
(record) key. A blinking R appears in the operator
information area.
2.
Press any one of the 24 PF keys. The R stops
blinking.
3.
Type the keystroke sequence you want saved. As you
are typing, notice the number following the R in the
operator Information area decreases by one each
time you press a key. It decreases by two each time
an Alt key and a shift key (shift lock, upper shift,
numeric shift, or Alpha shift) are pressed. This
number indicates how many more keystrokes you can
enter.
If the number increases when the PF key is pressed,
there is something already recorded on that PF key. If
you .do not want to destroy what Is recorded, press
the Recrd key; otherwise, continue typing.
I 4.
Press the Recrd key when you have completed the
keystroke sequences you wish to record for that PF
key.
Your keystroke sequence is saved, even if you turn off the
display station, and can be played back by pressing the
play key. See Play key later in this chapter.
Note: If you make a keying error, you can move the
cursor back to the error and correct it but the backspace
will be recorded. A better way to correct the keying error
is to exit the record function (press the Recrd key), reenter
the record function (press the Recrd key again and press
the same PF key) and enter the keystroke sequence again.
If you start recording a keystroke sequence but do not
want to complete it:
1.
Press and hold down an Alt (alternate) key.
2,
Press the Dv Cnl (device cancel) key.
