Connecting to the Instrument and Viewing its Home Page

With the 34945A and 34945EXT(s) connected as shown in Figure 2-1, connect
the 34980A to the PC using one of the LAN options shown. Note that a LAN
cross-over cable is only required for a direct connection between the instru-
ment and the PC, and only if the PC does not have Auto-MDIX (Gigabit Ether-
net).
Obtaining the Host Name or IP Address
In order to connect a Web browser to the instrument, the 34980A host name or
IP address is required. The host name set at the factory has the format:
A-34980A-yyyyy
where 'yyyyy' are the last five digits of the instrument's serial number
The

serial number of the 34980A is located on the back of the instrument.
The 34980A IP address can be determined using 'Agilent Connection Expert '
as described in the section "Adding Instruments to the Interface" in Chapter 3.
Start the computer's web browser and enter the host name or IP address in the
browser's address window. The 34980A home page should appear as shown in
Figure 4-1.
The instrument home page displays IO information, can be used to identify a
connected instrument, and contains the menu tabs for accessing other Web
pages and additional instrument functionality.

An Overview of the 'Browser Web Control' Page

Configuration of the 34945A/34945EXT, distribution boards, and
switch/attenuator channels occurs through the 'Browser Web Control' page.
Clicking the 'Browser Web Control' tab on the home page opens the page
shown in Figure 4-2.
