3. Software and Hardware Setup
Recommended System Requirements
To achieve best system performance, the follow ing minimum requirements are recommended:

Setup Steps: Overview
Take the follow ing steps in order to setup and run your camera system. They are described briefly below
and in more detail in the sections that follow .
1. Install and Configure Frame Grabber and Software
We recommend the Xcelera-CL PX8 Full frame grabber or equivalent, described in detail on the
teledynedalsa.com site here. If your host computer does not have a PX8 full Camera Link frame grabber
then you w ill need to install one. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
A GenCP (Generic Control Protocol) compliant XM L device description file is embedded w ithin the
camera firmw are allow ing GenCP-compliant applications to know the camera's capabilities immediately
after connection. Installing SaperaLT gives you access to the CamExpert GUI, a tool that supports GenCP-
compliant devices.
2. Connect Camera Link and Power Cables

Connect the Camera Link cables from the camera to the computer.
•
Connect a pow er cable from the camera to a +12 VDC to +24 VDC pow er supply.
3. Establish communicating with the camera
Start the GUI and establish communication w ith the camera.
ASCII Commands
A s an alternative to the CamExpert (or equivalent) GUI, you can communicate w ith this camera using
A SCII-based commands. A complete list of the commands can be found here,

4. Operate the Camera
A t this point you w ill be ready to start operating the camera in order to acquire images, set camera
functions, and save settings.
