1. Turn off the
lights, heate
r
and
ot
her electrical
loads;
2.
Remove the vent
caps
from the booster
and discha
rged ·battery.
Lay a
cloth
over the vent wells of each battery.
3.
Make
sure
electrolyte is at proper level.
If
e
lectrolyte
is
not
visible, o
r
appea rs
fro
ze n,
Do Not Attempt Assist Starting! A
batrery might rupture or explode if the temperature
is
below the
freezing point or it is not filled to
the
proper
level.
4.
Conn
ect one end
ofajumper cable to the positive termina
l
of the
booster
batte
ry
. Connect
the
other
end to the pos itive terminal of
the discharged
battery.

Con nect
the
oth
er cable
to the negat ive
terminal
of
the
booste
r
battery and then to the alternator
mounting
bracket of
yo
ur
car.
Make
sure
you have
a
good ground contact on the bracket!
6. Sta rt
the
car.
7. Reverse
the above seq uence
exactly when removing the
jumper
cables.
To avoid personal
injur},
or damage to your clothing, do not allow
battery fluid to contact eyes, skin, or fabric! Don't lean over baUery
when attaching
damps
or
allow
the clamps to touch each other!
Keep flame or sparks away from the filler holes!

With a manua
l
tra nsm ission
you can get an
assist start
from
bor-
rowed battery power of by push
ing.
When pushing make
su re
the
bumpers on both
cars
a
lign
properly. Shift to third or high gear, turn
the
ignit
ion
key to
"On",
then depress
the
cl
utch
pedal and hold it
down.
When
a speed
of about 10 mph
is
reached
,
press the ac-
celerator
pedal
and
slowly
release
the clutch pedal. The engine
should
start.
Do
not
get
an ass ist
start
by
having
the
car
towed as
it
could collide
with
the tow
vehicle when the engine
starts.
Towing A Disabled
Car
(With Ignition Key Available)
Your car
may
be towed
if
the
gearshift or
se lector
lever is in neutral
and the distance to be traveled does not
exceed
15 miles, and the
towing
s
peed
does not
exceed 30
mph. If
the transmission
is
not
operative, or the car
is
to be towed more than
I
5
mil
es. the propel-
ler
shaft
sho
uld
be disconnected or the car
towed
with the rear
wheels off
the
ground.
For towed cars requiring steering,
the ignition
and steering lock must
be in the "OfT' position and not in the "Lock" or "Accessory"
position.
If necessary to use
accessories
(windshield wipers, defroster, rear
defogger, etc.) while towing, the kc}' should be turned to the
"On"
pOSition, not to the "Accessory" position. Make certain the transmis-
sion remains
in
"Neutral".
Towing
(Without Ignition Key)
Special

when

e car is towed
with the ignition
in the
"'Lock"
position. A dolly
shou
ld be used under the rear
wheels. and
front
wheels
should
be
raised.
Proper
towi
ng
equ ip-
ment is
necessa ry
to prevent damage to the vehicle.
