lubricant

lubrica

4. If
yo
ur
car
has
the
Heavy
Trailer
Tow
package
it
is
necessary
that
you
adjust
the pedal mounted brake controller
to
sy
nchronize
the
trailer
and car brakes
properly.
There are
two
adj
ustments
provided. The order
in
which they are
made
and the reason
for
them
is
as
fo
ll
ows:
A.
The LIMITING RESISTOR,
located in
the
engine compart-
mcnt
,
controls the
maximum
braking capacity of the trailer brakes.
As
installed in the
factory, this
unit
will provide for MAXIMUM
poss
ible
elec
trical
current
to
the
trailer
brakes.
If thi
s
setting
is
correct. the pedal
mounted
controller
in
the fully
depressed
posi-
tion
shoul
d
provide firm braking
actio
n
just
s
hort
of
s
kidding
on dry
pavement. This is a trial and
c
rror
process
which
de
pends
on your
trailer
we
ight
and brake size. Should you achieve premature brake
s
kid
,
un screw the slider
wing nut on the
res istor
panel and
move it
approximately \4
of
the
di
stance
to
the
opposite end of the
resistor.
Tighten the wing nut and recheck brake
re
sponse.

Controller
knob
adjustment

the rate
of

trailer brake.
This
adjustment ha
s
no
bearing on
the
maximum braking
of the trai ler brakes.
Because of
the
wide variety of
tow ing
vehic les and
trailers
,
it
is
neces sary
to
ba
lance
the tra ile
r
brakes with
the towing
vehicle
brakes
to provide for a
safe. comfortable stop. Th is adjustment
should
be
made
to
provide for
H
slight
lead
of
the trailer brakes
over
the tow
vehicle
brakes.
Turning
the hand
le clockwise will decrease
the rate of appl ication of the trailer
brakes,
while counterclockwise
will
increase
the rate of application.
When
the
des
ired
setting
is
rCHc
hed
,
the
controller will
hold
the adjustment,
but may
be varied
at any time by rotating the knob as described above. After
thi
s
adjustment, there
shou
ld
be no sensation of
the trai
ler
pushing
the
car
during
a stop,
nor
sho
uld there
be and excessive
se
nsation
of
the trailer pulling
the ca
r
duri ng a stop.

preparation for the initial equalizing
hitch
set
up. the vehicle
should
be empty. with the exception of
the
spa
re
tire and a full
tank
of gas.
With the engine ofT, evacuate the compressor tank by using the
se
rvice
valve
located
under the
car.

rear wheel
well.
