Chain Cle arance
Tire chains arc not reco mmended fo r use with some tire sizes. as

because of poss ible fender interfe rences. I n an
emergency, chains ma y be used on these ti re sizes if the veh ic le is
moderate ly loaded and dri ven cautiolls ly. C hains sho uld be the
proper size for the tires on the vehic le.
Prolonged dri ving, even with the proper c hain size. may re sult in
damage to the upper sidewall of radia l ti res.
Radial Ply Tires
Rad ial ply tires prov ide improved tread life. road haza rd resi stance
and smoother high speed ride . T he radial ply tires available on
C hrysler Corpo ration vehicles are identified by the lette r
"R'-
in
the ir size descript ion. That is: H R78· 15 as compa red with H78·15
for regu la r co nstructio n tires. They are of steel be lted const ruction
and are selec ted to complement the ride a nd handl ing characteris·
tics of you r car.
Radial ply tire s have the same load carrying capacity as bias or
bias-belted tires of the sa me lette r size and use the same recom·
mended inflation press ures.
Mixing of rad ia l ply ti res with bias or bias·belled tires is not rc·
commended. Many combinmions of radial ply and bias or bias-
be lted tires_ when combined on one vehicle. will deteriorate vehi·
c le handl ing seri ously. The best rule to follow is: Radia l ply tires
should always be used in se ts of five and under no circumstances
shou ld they be used on the fro nt only .
As longer wearing tires can be more susceptible to irregular tread
wea r. it is very important to follow the tire rotation interval shown
in the section "Tire Rotation" to achieve the tread life potential in
these tires.
C uts and punctures in radia l ply tires are repa irable only in the
tread area because of sidewall flexing. Consull your tire dealer for
radial ply tire repairs.
Police Pursuit Vehic les
Steel belted radial tires are not recommended for po lice use be-
ca use of their poo r pelformance at sus tained speeds above 105
mph. At such s peeds poo r vehicle stabil ity may be experienced and
ti re failure with

radia ls are ava il ab le fo r police service. Co ns ult your dealer for
applicat ion de ta ils.
Snow Tires
Snow tire s should not be operated at sustained speeds over75 mph.
These tire s sho uld always be innated to 32 ps i for 1000ld range B tires,
or 36 psi fo r load range C tires. Snow ti res must be of the same size
and const ruction (b ias, bias-belted. radial) as the front ti res.
