Operation
Glove Compartment
To open the glove com part ment rotate the latch i n a c lockwi se
d irection. Use key with round end to lock compartment.
Luggage Compartment
To unlock, use k ey with round end. Turn k ey to the right and the
co unt erba lanced trun k lid wi ll rai se easi ly. The lid will lock when
c losed , whe th er or not the key is in the lock.
Roof Type Carrier
Warning
Do not
lISC
a roof type carrier that rests on or clamps to the drip
mOld ing. If loads arc applied to the drip molding the molding
will
deform allowing the rack or carrier to break loose when the car is
underway.
Ash Tray and Lighter
An asht ray and lighter (optional on some Valiant models) are
located in the ce nt e r of t he in strument pane l.

Parking Brake
When t he ignition swi tch is in the '·O n" position a red lig ht in the
in strume nt cluste r indicate s when t he Parking brake is app lied.
Be s ure the parking bra ke is lirmly se t whe n parked a nd the gea r-
shift leve r is in Pa rk po s iti o n. When parking on a hill you s hou ld
app ly the Parking Brake before placing the gea r sh ift leve r in
"Park", Thi s preven ts lo ad ing t he parking brake pawl again st the
t ransm iss io n gear. Whe n this happens , it is dilfic ult to move the
gear se lecto r o ut
of
the Park position, As an added precaution ,
when parking on a dow nh ill g rade, turn the rront wheels Imvard the
curb,
away from
t he
curb on
uphi ll g rade.
