Air Cond itio ning Outlets
The outlets can be adjusted to direct air to any desired area by
rotating the
barrel or by
moving the vanes.
In
addition the outlets
can be shut off by moving the vanes to the completely closed
pos it ion .
Lowe r Outlets - except Valiant
&
VOlare
There are two at the lower portion of ,the instrument pane l to cool
the lap area of th e driver and passenge r. The air direction can be
adju s
ted by
rotating the barrel up and down.
Floor Air
On Gran Fury mode ls air can be
d i ~ec t ed
to the floor by adju sting a
pu sh-pull door beneath each lap-cooler out let. Pu lling the handle
increases the
amOllnt
of
no
or air. Pushing the handle decreases the
amount of floor air and can shut off the floor air enti rely. On Fu r y
mode ls a s ma ll hole in the bottom of the outlet directs some ai r
towa rd the floor. On the Volan!, floor ai r can be adj usted by
moving the three-position Floo r Air leve r located be low the in -
stru ment panel.
Operating Tips
Fa st Cooldown
For a fast coo ldown, use the
A le posit ion and
dr ive the car with the
window s down for the firs t few minute s. Once the hot air has been
expe ll ed from the car inter ior, close the windows and use Max.
28 A/C . When a comfortable cond ition has bee n reached , switch back
to Ale and adj ust the temperature contro l lever and fan speed as
neces sary to maintain comfort.
Window Fogging
I n mi ld , but rainy or humid weat her , car windows tend to fogon the
ins ide. To clear the fog off a ll the windows
use the A le
pos it ion .

I nteriorfogging on the windshie ld can be quickly removed by us ing
the Defrost posit ion.
Summer Operation
Air conditioned cars must be protected with a high -qual ity anti-
freeze coolant during s ummer to prevent the heater core from
freezing. The anti-freeze coo lant is also required to provide proper
corros ion pro tect ion and
to
raise the boil ing point for protection
against overheati ng. A 50% co ncentration is recommended.
When us ing the air conditioner in extreme ly heavy traffic in hot
weather, especially when towing a trailer. add itiona l engine cooling
may be requ ired. If th is s itu ation is encountered. operate the
transmission in a lower gear. When stopped in heavy traffic it may
be necessary to shift into neu tral and depres s the acce leralOr
slightly fo r fa st id le operation.
Winter Operation
When operating the s ystem duri ng the winter months. make sure
the air in take. which is located directly in front of the wind shie ld. is
free of ice. slush. snow or other obstruc ti ons.
