speeds (25 mil es pe r hOllr o r less) when going down hill. To prevent
excessive cnginc speed do not exceed 3S miles per hour in First.
Rocking the Car
lf car becomes stuck in snow , sa nd. o r mud. it can ofte n be moved
by a rock ing motion. Mo ve (he gea r selector rh ythmicall y betwee n
"First" and "Reverse" , while appl ying slight pressure to the
acce lerator.
Avoid racing the engi ne or spinning the wheels. Prolonged efforts to
free a stuck car may result in overheating and transmission failure.
Passing Acceleration
By depress ing th e acce le rat o r to the fl oor, you aut o mat icall y shift
th e transmission 10 a lowe r ge ar fo r passi ng at highway s peeds.
Within a limited ve hicl e speed ra nge (a pp rox imat ely 10-40 mph), a

Holding on an Upgrade

this fo r long periods. Use the bra ke on steep grades.

Gasoline can be saved by shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear as soon as

Shifting Gears
Wh e n shifting gears: (I) Dep ress c lut ch pedal to floo r. (2) Mo ve
shift le ver to des ired position. (3) Release clu tc h pedal and press
dow n on acce lera tor pedal a lthe same time. Do not drive with yo ur
foal on the cl ut c h pedal as th is will ca use ab no rmal clutch wear.
Down Shifting
Sh ift ing from a hi gh gear down to the lowe r gears in de sce nding
nume ri cal orde r is recom mend ed to prese rve brakes when dri ving
dow n stee p hills. In addition. down shirting a t the ri gh t time pro-
vides be tter accele rat ion whe n you desire to reSll me speed. For
acceie rmion init iat ing a speeds less tha n 20 mph, seco nd gear is
recomme nded .
