Column Mounted Selector
The selec tor lever

mounted on the ri ght side of the stee ring
co lumn . To drive , move the selec tor le ve r from Park o r Neutra l to
the des ired drive pos iti on. Pul l se lector lever toward you when
s hifti ng int o Reverse . Second, First or Park , o r when s hifting ou t of
Park.
Con sole Mounted Selector
The se lec tor, on the console pane l located a t the driver's right. is
illumin alcd for nigh t driving. The se lec to r lever may be shi fted
freely from Neut ra l to Drive. To move the [eve r to o r from Park
posi ti on to Second , First. o r Reverse. il is necessary to dep ress the
shift lever button , loeaied o n t he se lector leve r.
Note : A console mounted shift lever can be moved out of park after
the ignition key has been renuI\:cd . Therefore, it is vcr}' important
that chi ldren len in the ca r be cautioned
ag~linst
touching the shift
lever. Also, the parking brake should be fully applied before leaving
the car on an incline .
Qu ick Sh ift Mechanism (Fury) - Conso le mounte d s hift co ntro ls
inc o rpo rate a quick sh ift feat ure. The q ui c k s hift will faci li tate fast
accurate manual opera tion orlhe transmi ss ion and prevent mi ssed
s hift s . Shift ing the lever to F irst activates the spee d-shift gate.
Then when you move th e leve r to Second, a gate s tops the shift
leve r from moving thru thi s ra nge. Mov ing th e leve r forwa rd again
after a pause will engage Dr ive. where another gate stops it from
s hifting through Neutral. O nce the gate system is in operat ion. the
bulton on the shift lever knob mu st be pu s hed to s hift to Ne utra l. If
the gate sys tem is not activated . shift s can be made from Neutra l to
Drive a nd bac k to Ne utra l without push ing th e button. A I no time
ca n Reverse of Park be engaged without first pushing the button.
GEAR RANGES
DO NOT race the engine when Sh ifting from Park or Neutral posi-
tions into another gear range .
"P" Park
Supp lements pa rking bra ke by lock ing th e tra nsmi ss io n. Eng in e
can be started in thi s range . Never use Park while ca r is in motion.
Apply parking brake when leaving car in this range.
OR" Reverse

"0" Drive

Fo r drivi ng slow ly in heavy c ity traffi c oron mountain road s where
more prec ise s peed co ntrol is desirable. Usc it a lso whe n Climbing
long grades. a nd fo r "engi ne braking" whe n desce nding moder-
a te ly stee p gra des. To prevent ('xnssh'e engine speed do not exceed
60 mile per hour in Second. 19
