21.1.2 What You Need to Know

The following terms and concepts may help you as you read through the chapter.
Managing Authority Groups
You control extensions within an authority group by associating (linking) authority
groups with:
• Other Authority Groups - When you create an authority group it is by default
linked to all other authority groups created on the X2002 and all the other
authority groups are also linked to it. This means that any extension created on
the X2002 can call any other extension created on the X2002 regardless if they
are part of the same authority group. You can, however, stop extensions within
one authority group from calling extensions in another authority group. An
example is shown below. You have an organization with three authority groups
(AG1-AG3). You can remove the link from one authority group (for example
AG3) to another authority group (for example AG2) to stop extensions in AG3
from calling AG2 (AG2 can still call AG3).

• LCRs - An LCR is an outbound dialing rule. When you create links from an
authority group to an LCR, you allow the extensions in that authority group to
make outbound calls via the outbound line groups configured in the LCR. The
following figure shows AG1, which is an authority group for the sales
department, associated with LCR1 (this could be an LCR allowing calls through
your local telephone service provider - PSTN and calls via a link to your branch
office - TrustedPeer) and LCR2 (this could be an LCR for long distance calls via
