1-2 Connecting to the Network

Stages of installation on the network

Installation can be performed by a network or printing administrator. The stages of a
successful installation are:
• Physically connecting the Fiery X2 to a functioning network
Prepare a network node for the Fiery X2—obtain cable and route it to the location
where the Fiery X2 will be installed (near the copier) and attach the cable to the net-
work interface of the Fiery X2. See page 1-11 for details.
• Configuring the network server
When network servers are required, you need to configure those servers to provide
client access to the Fiery X2 as a color PostScript printer. See Chapter 4 for
configuring network servers in Windows and UNIX network environments.
• Setting up the Fiery X2
Configure the Fiery X2 for your particular printing and network environment. First
read "Before you proceed" in the Introduction, and then see Chapter 2 for details.
• Preparing user computers for printing
Install the files needed for printing, install additional user software, and connect the
client to the Fiery X2 over the network. These steps are described in Getting Started,
and some information is provided in Chapter 4 of this manual.
• Administering the Fiery X2
Monitor and maintain system performance and troubleshoot problems that arise. See
Chapter 5 and the User Guide for details.
