Inspecting the Armature

1.
If any solder has been thrown from the armature the motor must be
replaced.
NOTE: Check the inside of the motor housing around the
commutator for bits of solder.
2.
If the commutator is grooved, it must be cut on a lathe.
3.
Measure the undercut on the commutator.
a. If less than .025", then the mica must be undercut.
4.
Measure the commutator diameter.
a. If less than 3.109", then the armature is worn out and the motor
must be replaced.
5.
Spin the bearings by hand.
a. If any vibration or roughness is felt, they must be replaced.
