Operating LinkCom 5

Most setup and management of LinkCom 5 PrintServers is handled through
PrintGuide. Some actions are performed directly on the PrintServer. A built-in web
server offers some configuration options.
6.1
Using test button to print PrintServer
configuration
The test button is located on the rear side of the PrintServer. Pressing the test
button shortly once, will cause the PrintServer to print a basic PrintServer
configuration page on the connected printer. The "PRT" LED will blink one time.
The configuration page contains information about the PrintServer; LinkCom
product name, firmware version, HW/MAC address, IPv6 and IPv4 address
assignment (if relevant), features installed (including transforms, colour support
and resident fonts).
Please note that the printer must be defined in PrintGuide before a configuration
page can be printed. The destination printer must support ASCII text format. If,
however, a USB printer is connected directly to the LinkCom 5 PrintServer via the
USB port the configuration page will be printed on the USB printer thereby
overruling any PrintGuide configuration.
In the situation where the LinkCom 5 PrintServer has not been configured or has
been reset to factory defaults:
If a USB Printer is connected via the LinkCom USB port the configuration page
is printed here.
If a network printer is connected directly to the LinkCom PRT port the
configuration page is printed here.
A detected USB printer will take precedence over a detected network printer when
printing the configuration page. (Please note that directly network or USB printers
are only detected by LinkCom 5 during power up, so a LinkCom 5 power recycle
might be needed)
This makes it easier for a technician not having access to the customers DHCP
server, verifying the setup.
6.2
Using test button to reset PrintServer to
factory defaults
By pressing the test button and holding it pressed between 8 to 60 seconds will
initiate a PrintServer reset to factory defaults routine. After an automatic restart,
the PrintServer will be restored to default settings this includes TCP/IP settings will
default to DHCP assigned IP address. An eventual set device password will not be
cleared.
