For example, to specify a rate limit of 2000 Megabits per second for the first
port on the module, you would enter the following:
ProCurve(config)#interface tengigabitethernet 1/1
ProCurve(config-interface-10gig1/1)# mac-rate-limit 2000
Operating Notes for Rate-Limiting
The mac-rate-limit command is only effective on the 2-Port X2 10GbE
module. Attempts to configure it on another type of port or module will
generate an error message such as the following:
#*Mon Jan
FAILED_CONFIGURING_PORT_PARAM: Error configuring
parameter mac parameter for port Gig1/1
The configured rate limit on a port reflects the permitted forwarding rate
from incoming traffic on the port to the switching fabric.
Rate-limiting only applies to user traffic and not to control frames. The
following types of control frames and protocols are not subject to
rate-limiting: BPDU; OSPF; all routers; designated router; LACP; RIPv2;
PIM; VRRP; System MAC.
By default, rate-control is evenly applied in such a way that bandwidth
can be shifted between each port depending on the incoming rate of
traffic. For example, if both ports are subjected to an input rate of over 5
Gb/sec—and no MAC rate-limit has been set—each port will be limited to
approximately 5 Gb/sec automatically.
