Redirecting the Solaris OS Output to
the Serial Port
The following procedure shows how to redirect Solaris operating system (OS) output
from your server to a serial console. Use these instructions to redirect OS output
after the software is installed. For information about how to redirect the server
output to the console during OS installation, see the instructions in

Before You Begin

This procedure is required only for servers with older BIOS and SP firmware
versions:
For the Sun Fire X4250 server, this procedure is not required.
See
the firmware level on your Sun Fire X4150 and X4450 servers.
Systems with newer firmware have the default serial port set to TTYA/COM1
(Solaris OS defaults).
For systems with newer firmware, the baud rate setting in the files listed below
should match the setting for the serial port mode in the
BIOS –>Server–>Remote Access Configuration screen.

1. After the Solaris OS is installed, log in to the server as root (superuser).
2. Make edits to the following files:
