5.2.2 PF Belt Tension Adjustment

Purpose:
Make this adjustment to avoid idling of the PF Motor (fatal error),
broken wire of the coil in the motor due to abnormal heating, and
banding due to poor paper feed accuracy.
Things to be used
Tension meter
Tweezers
Phillips screwdriver
Adjustment procedure

Step
Secure the mechanism of the PF Motor and fasten the Timing Belt between the PF
1
Roller Unit and the PF Motor Pinion.
2
Press the POWER button. (No. 0 or No. 1 will appear on the LCD.)
Select the channel for making further settings by pressing the SELECT button for a
3
number from No. 0 ~ No. 9. (The default value will be used without any problem when
selection is omitted.)
Press the WEIGHT button. The default value will appear. However, enter a number on
4
the keyboard ten-key pad so that "1.3g/m" will be displayed.
Press the WIDTH button. The default value will appear. However, enter a number on
5
the keyboard ten-key pad so that "5.0mm" will be displayed.
Press the SPAN button. The default value will appear. However, enter a number on the
6
keyboard ten-key pad so that "35mm" will be displayed.
Bring the microphone surface as close to the center of belt tension as possible.
Note : Use the tip of a pair of tweezers for the timing belt plucking operation of the
7
above steps, but be careful that the plucked belt does not come in contact with
the microphone.
8
Press the MEASURE button. ("----" will appear on the LCD.)
Grasp the Timing Belt with the tip of a pair of tweezers and pull the belt downwards to
pluck it.
The "----" line on the LCD will wave, and a high-pitched beep will notify you of the
9
completion of measurement when the result is displayed in units of "N" on the LCD.
Regardless of the force applied to pluck the Timing Belt, the instrument can measure
the tension by picking up the acoustic tone accurately, and the result is displayed in "N"
units (Newton).
Repeat steps 8 ~ 9 and adjust the tension by shifting the PF Motor mounting position
10
adjuster finely so that the tension falls within the specified limits.

If plucking the belt is not reflected on the LCD at all, try
P O I N T
plucking the belt again after waiting 2 ~ 3 seconds.
Ensure a quiet environment for accurate measurement so that
the microphone will not pick up surrounding noises.
If measurement results significantly differ, there is a high
possibility that the acoustic tone was not picked up accurately
in some measurements. In such a case, pluck the belt again
with tweezers and record the value that approximates the
results of two measurements. Displayed values are highly
reliable, with an error factor of 1/100 ~ 5/100.
Standard value is: 8.0 ± 2.0 N⋅m
PF Motor screw tightening torque: 0.39 ± 0.05 N⋅m
