IPX
Internetwork Packet Exchange. A networking protocol used by the Novell
NetWare operating systems. Like UDP/IP, IPX is a datagram protocol used for
connectionless communications.
ISDN
Integrated Services Digital Network. An international telecommunications
standard for digital transmission of voice, video, and data over WANs.
ISDN BRI
Integrated Services Digital Network Basic Rate Interface. It is comprised of
two bearer channels of 64Kbps and one data signaling channel of 16Kbps (2B
+D).
LAN
Local Area Network. A data communications network serving users within a
limited geographic area, such as a building or a single floor of a building.
LAN segment
A portion of a local area network separated from other portions of the LAN by
one or more bridges, routers, repeaters, or switches.
leased line
A private transmission line reserved for the leasing customer's sole use.
LMI
Local Management Interface. Set of enhancements to the basic frame relay
specification that provide additional capabilities for complex internetworking
environments, including support for virtual circuit status messages,
multicasting, global addressing, and simple flow control.
MAC
Media Access Control. An access control protocol within IEEE 802
specifications.
MAC address
Media Access Control address. A unique number encoded in the circuitry of a
device to identify it on a local area network.
