Press ·∏ on the MD deck (or
MD P
on the remote).
Recording starts.

Start playing the source to be
recorded.
To stop recording
Press p on the MD deck.
If "Analog REC!" appears
The system is making an analog recording of
the sound from a digital component
connected to the VIDEO1 or VIDEO2 jacks
(CS/BS or LD/DVD jacks for DHC-MD717).
To make a digital recording of the sound
from a digital component, connect the
component to the VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2
DIGITAL IN jack (CS/BS or LD/DVD
DIGITAL IN jack for DHC-MD717) using
optical cables.
Notes
• Once the system has been set to analog recording,
you must first switch the function to other than
"VIDEO 1" or "VIDEO 2" ("CS/BS" or
"LD/DVD" for DHC-MD717) to make a digital
recording.
Stop the recording and press FUNCTION >/.
repeatedly to select "VIDEO 1" or "VIDEO 2"
("CS/BS" or "LD/DVD" for DHC-MD717) again.
• Many types of DVD software cannot be digitally
recorded. In these cases, an analog recording is
made even if the DVD player is connected using
optical cables.
Tip
Each time you press DISPLAY on the MD deck
during recording, the recording time and remaining
time of the MD appear alternately in the display.
When recording is completed
Press § and eject the MD. "TOC Writing" flashes
and the MD Table of Contents (TOC) is updated.
While "TOC Writing" is flashing
Do not move the deck or pull out the power cord to
ensure the complete recording. The deck is currently
updating the Table of Contents (TOC).
Recording over a
recorded track
Select the point at which you want to start
recording before step 3.
To record over:
• From a specific position of the track
Play the MD and press ·∏ on the MD
deck at the desired point. The system
changes to playing pause.
• From the beginning of the track
Pause MD play, then turn SELECTOR until
the desired track number appears.
All the tracks from the selected track
number onward are recorded over.
Continue the operations from step 3.
