Cable runs between buildings are directly buried.
Cable runs between buildings are in an underground conduit, where a continuous metallic cable
shield or a continuous metallic conduit containing the cable is bonded to each building grounding
electrode system.
Caution
Failure to follow these requirements for cable routing conditions may expose the user to
electrical shock and expose the unit to errors or damage.
Warning
The intra-building ports of the equipment or sub-assembly are suitable for connection to
intrabuilding or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The intra-building ports of the equipment
or sub-assembly must not be metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the outside
plant (OSP) or its wiring. These interfaces are designed for use as intra-building interfaces
only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation
from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not sufficient protection
in order to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.

Cable Routing for PoE Devices

When power over Ethernet (PoE) devices are connected to a PoE-capable I/O module, all connections
between the PoE device and the switch must remain inside the same building and use a low-voltage
power distribution system per IEEE 802.3af.

Installing Power Supply Units

For the ratings and power requirements of each power supply unit, see
BlackDiamond 8800 Series Switches
www.extremenetworks.com.
Warning
Be sure to satisfy the requirements listed in this section when you install Extreme Networks
power supplies.
When you install any power supply:
Do not use excessive force when you insert a power supply into the bay.
Do not attempt to open the power supply enclosure for any reason; the power supply does not
contain user-serviceable parts. In the event of failure, return the defective power supply to Extreme
Networks for repair or replacement.
Do not put your hand into an open power supply bay when a power supply is not present.
When you install AC power supplies:
Plug power supplies only into properly grounded electrical outlets to help prevent electrical shock
and to comply with international safety standards.
Use only power cords that are certified for use within the country of use. Do not attempt to modify
AC power cords.
