Chapter 4
Expanding Your System
This chapter provides information about installing and using external
add-on disk storage and software load devices.
The following expansion boxes are recommended for use with MicroVAX
3100 and VAXserver 3100 systems:
RRD40 compact disc expansion box (600Mb)
RZ55 hard disk expansion box (332Mb)
TK50Z tape expansion box (95Mb).
Instructions for the following tasks are included in this chapter:
Connecting two expansion boxes of the same type to your system unit
Verifying the SCSI ID default (factory) switch setting on the first
expansion box
Setting the SCSI switches on a second expansion box.
The RZ55 and TK50Z Expansion Boxes
The RZ55 hard disk and the TK50Z tape drive provide disk and tape storage
for your system. Optionally, the TK50Z can be used as a software . load
device.
The RZ55 and the TK50Z are enclosed in similar expansion boxes.
These expansion boxes are shipped with the appropriate cables and
connectors for connecting more than one box.
The installation
procedure is the same for both types of expansion box.
The RZ55 and the TK50Z expansion boxes have external SCSI ID
switches. If a second RZ55 or a second TK50Z is added to the SCSI
bus, its SCSI ID must be changed to an unused ID. This is because
no two devices on an SCSI bus can have the same ID. The external
switches make it easier to change the SCSI ID.
