Installing Your System
Setting up your MicroVAX 3100 or VAXserver 3100 system is easy. After
helping you check that you have all your equipment (see Section 2.2), this
chapter describes:
Setting up your system unit
Attaching Ethernet terminators to prepare for networking or diagnostic
tests
Connecting a terminal
Connecting the power cord
Starting your system
The chapter goes on to show you everything you need to do to get your
system up and running, including:
What to do if you're planning to connect to a network
The operating system software and the options available
Booting your system from the system disk
Using VMS Factory Installed Software (FIS)
Connecting additional terminals
2.1 Choosing the Right Location
Use the following checklist to keep your system operating at its best:
Carefully read all installation instructions before you turn on the power.
Keep the temperature between 10° and 32°C (50° and 90°F) if your
system has a TZ30 tape drive installed. If the system does not have a
TZ30 installed, keep the temperature between 10° and 40°C (50° and
104°F).
Keep the relative humidity between 40% and 80% if your system has a
TZ30 tape drive installed. Tape cartridges should also be stored at this
