Installing Your System
Setting up your MicroVAX 3100 or VAXserver 3100 system is easy. After
helping you check that you have all your equipment (see Section 2.2), this
chapter describes:
• Setting up your system unit
• Attaching Ethernet terminators to prepare for networking or diagnostic
tests
• Connecting a terminal
• Connecting the power cord
• Starting your system
The chapter goes on to show you everything you need to do to get your
system up and running, including:
• What to do if you're planning to connect to a network
• The operating system software and the options available
• Booting your system from the system disk
• Using VMS Factory Installed Software (FIS)
• Connecting additional terminals
2.1 Choosing the Right Location
Use the following checklist to keep your system operating at its best:
• Carefully read all installation instructions before you turn on the power.
• Keep the temperature between 10° and 32°C (50° and 90°F) if your
system has a TZ30 tape drive installed. If the system does not have a
TZ30 installed, keep the temperature between 10° and 40°C (50° and
104°F).
• Keep the relative humidity between 40% and 80% if your system has a
TZ30 tape drive installed. Tape cartridges should also be stored at this
