2.1.3 Drive Mechanism operation

Carriage Drive Mechanism Operation
A document is scanned in two directions. The primary direction is right-
to-left along a single-pixel-wide line parallel to the carriage, between the
lamps. Subsequent lines are scanned in the secondary direction by
moving the carriage.

To maximize performance, the scan-light beam data are processed by
the ISN board while the next line is being scanned.

(Carriage)
The Carriage Unit slides along the guide shaft in the secondary scanning
direction. The CR (Carriage) Motor transmits its drive power to the CR
Drive Belt attached to the Carriage Unit, via the Drive Pulley and
Deceleration Gear.
under open loop control. The image data scanning start position is
determined by the CR Home Position (HP) Sensor located on the
Control Board.
