any service operations should be performed. A detailed
inspection o f parts should be m ade to determine if it is
feasible to replace them.

Removal

1.
Before proceeding with disassembly, wipe exterior
surface o f com pressor clean.

3. Invert com pressor and H olding Fixture J-9396, with
front end o f com pressor shaft now facing downward (Figure
1-29).

A dditional oil m ay leak from the compressor at this
time. A ll oil m ust be drained into a container so that
TO TA L am ount can be measured. (SEE STEP 2 A BO V E).
A liquid measuring cup m ay be used for this purpose.
Drained oil should then be discarded.
4. R em ove four locknuts from threaded studs on
com pressor shell and rem ove rear head. Tap uniformly
around rear head if head is binding (Figure ID -29).
5. W ipe excess oil from all sealing surfaces on rear head
casting webs, and exam ine sealing surfaces (Figure ID -30)
If any damage is observed, the Rear Head should be
replaced.
6. R em ove Suction Screen and exam ine for any damage
or contam ination. Clean or replace if necessary.
7. Paint an identifying mark on exposed face o f innei
and outer Oil Pump Gears and then rem ove gears.
Identifying marks are to assure that gears, if re-used, will
be installed on identical position.
8. R em ove and discard rear head to shell O-ring.
9. Carefully rem ove Rear D ischarge Valve Plate
assembly. U se tw o sm all screwdrivers under reed retainers
to pry up on assembly (Figure ID -31).

10. Exam ine Valve R eeds and Seats. Replace entire
assembly if any reeds or seats are damaged.
11. U sing two sm all screwdrivers, carefully remove
Rear Suction Reed (Figure ID -32).

12. Exam ine reeds for damage, and replace if necessary,
