NOTICE:
It is important that Puller Pilot J-9395 be
used to prevent internal dam age to com pressor when
rem oving pulley. U nder no circum stances should
Puller be used D IR E C T L Y against drilled end o f shaft.

R em ove Pulley and Bearing A ssem bly, using Pulley
Puller J-8433 (Figure I D - 13).
Inspection
Check the appearance o f the Pulley and Bearing
assembly (see Figure ID -7). The frictional surfaces o f the

Pulley and Bearing asssem bly should be cleaned with
naphtha, Stoddard solvent, kerosene or
equivalent solvent before reinstallation.
Replace
1. If original Pulley and Bearing assembly is to be
reinstalled, wipe
frictional surface o f pulley clean. If
frictional surface o f pulley show s any indication o f damage
due to overheating, the Pulley and Bearing assembly should
be replaced.
2. Check bearing for brineling, excessive looseness,
noise, and lubricant leakage. If any o f these conditions exist,
bearing should be replaced. See "A-6 Compressor Pulley
Bearing" R eplacem ent procedure.
PULLER

Press or tap Pulley and Bearing assembly on neck
o f com pressor until it seats, using Pulley and Bearing
Installer J-9481 with U niversal H andle J-8092 (Figure 1D-
14). The Installer w ill apply force to inner race o f bearing
and prevent dam age to bearing.
