RADIUS, Local—The switch depends on one or more external RADIUS
servers to perform the authentication (see description of RADIUS above.) If
the switch cannot reach any servers, it performs the authentication locally
(see description of Local above).

Modifying Port PAE Capabilities
Use the Port PAE Capabilities page to view and configure each port's 802. 1 X role
as authenticator or supplicant.
To modify the role of a port as an authenticator or supplicant:
Click Security > 802.1X > Properties in the navigation window.
Select the port to configure and click Edit.
Select the role for the port:
Authenticator—Select this option if the port needs to authenticate the
remote supplicant before granting access to a local port.
Supplicant—Select this option if the port needs to ask permission from the
remote authenticator before accessing a remote port.
Click Apply and then click Close. Your changes are saved to the Running
Configuration.
