16 Boiler inspection and maintenance

16.4 Preparing boiler for cleaning

1. Take the boiler out of operation (
page 42).

Before opening a unit: disconnect elec-

trical power and lock to prevent acci-
dental reactivation.
2. Open and remove front door of boiler (
page 27).

Never work on gas lines unless you are

3. Turn gas valve ON/OFF knob clockwise to OFF
position. Do not use force.

Wait five (5) minutes until all gas resi-

dues have dissipated. Check whether
there is any smell of gas, including at
floor level. If there is a gas odor, shut of
main gas valve immediately. Turn off
power to the heating system and call
your customer service technician or
gas company.
