16.9 Troubleshooting the GC124 SP

Equipment required: Wiring diagrams (
Start
Set gas valve ON/OFF knob
clockwise to OFF position.
Close main gas shut-off. Set
thermostat (control) to heat re-
quirement (vent damper
opens).
Switch on power.
Set gas valve ON/OFF knob
counterclockwise to PILOT posi-
tion. Open main gas shut-off.
Press red pilot ignition button
and ignite ignition flame. Hold
down red pilot ignition button for
one minute and then release. Ig-
nition flame is burning.
Set gas valve ON/OFF knob
counterclockwise to ON. Main
burner ignites.
System operates until the heat
requirement ends.
Heat requirement ended, sys-
tem switches off, vent damper
closes. Ignition flame continues
to burn.

Disconnect 24-V connection to gas valve. If gas valve closes, check ther-
mostat and electrical wiring again.
If the gas valve does not close, replace gas valve.
Repeat procedure until heating system operates properly.
