Setting up Placeholder Categories for Cube Groups
When you define a cube group, you can manually add a placeholder category to
the level from which future cubes will be derived to allow for additions. Provided
the new members have the same rolled-up data as the existing members, the cube
containing the placeholder category will gather the incrementally updated data
that the new member needs.
For example, suppose a model uses a cube group for your sales offices, which you
update incrementally. Each member cube therefore contains historical summary
data. Your company is planning to add another sales office in the future, but
details are not yet available. You want the new office to have access to the same
historical data as the other offices.

on page 179 and "Choosing a Partitioning Strategy" on page 180.
Procedure
1. Open the diagram for the dimension on which the cube group will be based.
2. In the category viewer, insert a category into the level from which the member
3. Define the cube group and, on the Processing tab of the PowerCube property
4. Click OK.
5. In the PowerCubes list, expand the cube group to list the members.
6. In the property sheet for the placeholder cube, change the name to New.
Setting up a New Cube Group Member:
Use the following steps to define a new cube group member.
Procedure
1. Open the diagram for the dimension on which the cube group is based.
2. On the property sheet for the placeholder category, rename the Category Label
3. On the property sheet for the placeholder cube, rename the cube.

Updating Published PowerCubes and PowerCube Connections

After a Cognos Transformer PowerCube is rebuilt or updated, you can make the
newer version of the cube available to IBM Cognos studios using the copy and
activate method from the Cognos Transformer user interface. This method of
updating published PowerCubes is fully automated, which reduces the risk of
errors that may cause connection problems when users attempt to access the cubes.

Connections."
The copy and activate process can also be initiated using the -g command line
option "-g option" on page 225.
A different way of activating a published PowerCube is offered by the pcactivate
command line utility ("Activating a Published PowerCube Using pcactivate" on
page 189). In this case, the PowerCube must first be copied to the deployment
