The Printer Status Window cannot be resized, but you can make more room on the
screen by showing fewer of its components. For example, you could limit the
Printer Status Window to job information and the progress bar. By resizing the
window of your word-processing application, you could work there while keeping
an eye on the Printer Status Window.

Taking Advantage of Print manager

When the Windows Print Manager is activated, the application sends the document
to Print Manager rather than to the printer. Print Manager takes care of sending the
document to the printer by temporarily storing it on the hard disk and adding it to
the queue of print jobs waiting to print. As a print job finishes, Print Manager sends
the next job from the queue to the printer.
