Responding to Alerts

When something interferes with printing or you need to do something before
printing can continue, the Printer Status Window automatically opens to full-size to
explain what to do. For example, it may tell you to clear a paper jam or add paper
before printing.
In these situations, the Printer Status Window changes. The
the problem that needs immediate attention, a summary of the problem replaces the
job information, and a description of the problem replaces the printer picture and
progress bar.
Some alerts identify problems, while others tell you when you must give the printer
some attention. The kind of alert determines how you will resume normal printing.
If the window identifies a problem, printing automatically resumes as soon as you
fix the problem.
If the Windows Printing System has detected more than one condition at the
same time, it will display alerts in this order: Check Printer/Cable (or Print Job
Lost), Engine Error, Check Cover, Clear Paper Jam.
After fixing the current problem, you will see the next-most-important alert and
so on, until all alerts have been cleared, and the normal job information is
displayed.
After responding to the alert, the window returns to its previous state – full-size
or icon – and location. However, if you're using Print manager and you
interacted with the window, it will remain open and you'll have to close it
yourself.
For online Help, you can always press F1 or use the Help menu.
