Getting Started on the Cisco CRS-1 Router
Internal Flash disk0: for Active System Software and Configurations
The default location for storage of active software files and configurations is the internal flash disk0:. In
new systems, the initial Cisco IOS XR software is installed on this disk.
Note
The internal flash disk0: is used for installed and active software packages and configuration files only.
It should not be used to store compressed Package Installation Envelope (PIE) files. See the
Flash disk1: for Archive of Installation PIE Files" section on page 1-13
used to store compressed PIE files.

Removable Flash disk1: for Archive of Installation PIE Files
The user-removable flash disk1: is used to store compressed PIE files. New versions of the installable
PIE files can also be downloaded from a network file server and stored on disk1:.
On new systems, a set of installation PIE files is installed on flash disk1:. This set includes a complete
set of Cisco IOS XR software packages.

Hard Disk

The user-removable Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) hard disk is divided into three partitions, and is
used to store auxiliary files, such as system logs, temporary files, and user files.
