Configuring Interfaces in the Cisco IOS XR Software

This section provides the following guidelines and information to perform basic configuration of an
interface:
Specifying the Interface "Instance"
To configure an interface, you must first specify the physical interface instance or a virtual interface
instance with the interface type instance command. The syntax for the interface "instance" is
rack/slot/module/port, which specifies the path, through the router, to the port of the interface (see

Specify the interface "instance" (type rack/slot/module/port).
Configure a network address (IP address) for the interface.
Configure any details required by or desired for the interface.
