The microswitch is not covered by the safety verification provided when using the LS brake
and microswitch to monitor whether the brake has been released C04.
Enclosure
L/LS brakes can be implemented as encapsulated brakes. This is the standard version for FDX
brakes. Encapsulated brakes include a dust protection ring around the circumference and an
integrated shaft sealing ring at the shaft outlet. This prevents the escape and penetration of
dust, moisture and other pollution. Other advantages are reduced noise when applying the
brake. In addition, in combination with motor anti-condensation heating, a reduced risk of
the rotor friction surfaces freezing and then seizing as a result. In addition, a condensation
drain hole is provided in the dust protection ring for L/LS brakes. Encapsulated brakes are also
supplied in combination with a manual brake release lever and a manual brake release lever
with locking mechanism.
Encapsulated brakes with condensation drain hole C11 cannot be selected in conjunction
with explosion-protected MB motors.
Corrosion protection
L brakes are supplied as standard with normal corrosion protection. A friction plate or adapter
flange is always mounted between the mating friction surface (end shield on the ventilation
side) and the rotor. The rotor is manufactured out of non-rusting material. The intermediate
flanges and armature disks of the brakes are chromium-plated for increased protection
against corrosion. This prevents the friction surfaces from seizing up. Increased corrosion
protection is employed when a motor is used in corrosive environmental conditions (high
air humidity, dripping water, crane systems, for example). When using the motor, longer
downtimes or ambient temperatures below ‑20 °C occur.
FDX brakes are supplied as standard with increased corrosion protection.
Increased corrosion protection C10 cannot be selected in conjunction with explosion-
protected MB motors or the functionally safe brake (LS brake).
