4.5 Brakes
NOTICE
Standard L brakes are suitable for ambient temperatures extending from ‑20 °C up to +45 °C.
With the increased corrosion protection option (C10), the brake can be used down to
temperatures of ‑40 °C. When operating the brake, comply with the permissible ambient
conditions.
Note
L brakes can also be implemented as functionally safe LS brakes (C09). On this topic, carefully
review operating instructions BA 2332 SIMOGEAR geared motor with holding brake for safety-
related applications.
Manual brake release
L/LS brakes can be equipped with a manual brake release lever. The brakes are mechanically
released using the manual brake release lever. For example, in order to bring a drive shaft
into a certain position or as emergency release when the power fails, in the released state,
the motor shaft can rotate freely. The manual brake release lever can be fixed in the released
position using an additional mounted locking mechanism. Only the manual brake release
lever with locking mechanism can be selected for FDX brakes. The manual brake release lever
can be mounted in various positions. The position of the manual brake release lever relates
to the standard design of the motor.
A locked brake can cause injury and material damage
No braking effect when the manual brake release lever is locked. The brake is then permanently
released.
Before commissioning the geared motor, ensure that the brake can be applied.
Unscrew the manual brake release lever and keep it separate from the geared motor.
Wear-resistant friction lining
L brakes can be equipped with a low-wear friction lining.
The low-wear friction lining C06 cannot be selected in conjunction with explosion-protected
MB motors or the functionally safe brake (LS brake).
Microswitch
Brakes L/LS32 to L/LS400 as well as FDX30 and FDX40 can be equipped with a microswitch to
monitor the brake switching status.
Note
Avoid ice forming on mechanical microswitch components at low temperatures.
The microswitch for brake release monitoring C04 cannot be selected in conjunction with
explosion-protected MB motors.
