System ports

The Contivity 5000 system board provides the following built-in interfaces:

This section provides information about the two Ethernet LAN ports and the serial
port on the system board.

1000BASE-T Ethernet LAN port

The system board provides one copper 1000BASE-T Ethernet LAN interface on
the rear of the chassis. This LAN interface, which accommodates an RJ-45
straight-through cable, is generally used to connect to Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
on other devices in your network, as well as to provide increased throughput.

Serial port
For 1000BASE-T operation, use Category 5 four-pair Ethernet wiring. The
cable must comply with the TIA 568 wiring specification. The maximum
recommended cable segment length is 100 meters.
For 100BASE-TX operation, use Category 5 twisted-pair wiring: one pair
each for transmit and receive operations. The cable must comply with the
EIA 568 wiring specification. The maximum recommended cable segment
length is 100 meters.
For 10BASE-T operation, use Category 3 or better twisted-pair wiring.
