The operating software in each processor card logs (stores) events in a first in first
out (FIFO) memory buffer.
When you issue a command to display or save the current log, the system sorts the
events from all processor cards in chronological order. You can also clear events
from all slots or from a single slot.
If you warm-start the router by issuing a
the Reset button, the event logs are not lost; they are in protected memory space
that is not affected by a warm start. However, if you cold-start the router by
turning the power off and on, events are lost. When you hot-swap an SSP card, the
events clear from that card only.
Note: It is crucial to save the event log in case you need to provide it to Nortel
Networks personnel for troubleshooting. See the section
