What Is the Versalar 15000?
The explosive growth of the Internet has dramatically transformed the topology
and technology of service provider networks. The need for network bandwidth
and more specifically, for efficient use of that bandwidth, is transforming the
typical carrier core network from a T3 infrastructure with a single class of service
to a multigigabit optical network with multiple classes of service. As a result, the
equipment used to build these networks has become more specialized to address
the multiple needs of edge concentration.
Routers designed for enterprise networks are often used on the edge of service
provider networks to concentrate leased-line traffic destined for the core. The
overutilization of these routers is driving demand for a new device that can
aggregate traffic from multiple leased lines onto an optical network, while
maintaining support for multiple levels of service.
The Versalar 15000 is the first Internet aggregation router designed to address the
needs of next-generation service provider networks. Its extremely high port
density provides access, traffic management, and accounting information for over
1000 simultaneous IP sessions. The Versalar 15000 allows access to carrier
