PERFORMANCE TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Under no circumstance should a rider or Polaris service technician tamper with / modify the function of the E-VES
actuator arm or push / pull cable for the sole purpose of setting the valves to the full-open position. Doing so may
cause severe engine and / or E-VES actuator damage. Please note that each time the engine is started, the ECU
commands the valves to the full-down position and then sets this position in its memory.
If the valves are locked in the full-open position when the engine is started, the ECU will set this position as the full
closed setting. When this occurs, the fuel / ignition timing will never match the physical position of the valves. If the
actuator or push / pull cable have been tampered with, reset the components as specified and perform the E-VES re-
Break-in for the drive belt, should be performed at moderate speeds and may take between 20-50 miles (32-80 KM).
Break-in time will be longer if the rider drives aggressively and at sustained high speeds. Also, during the break-in
time, the full shift RPM may be 200-300 RPM lower than when fully broken-in.
Step 1: Document the Basics:
• Document the specific concern. Determine when the concern occurs, conditions, speed, throttle position, etc.
Transfer these notes directly to the Ask Polaris case.
• Ask the rider what type of two-stroke engine oil they have been using. Verify what oil is in the oil reservoir. Take a
photo of the oil in the reservoir and attach it to the Ask Polaris case.
• Document VIN, miles, all riders' concerns, modifications, etc.
• Verify all outstanding Service Bulletins and Team Tips have been reviewed by your service staff and the snowmobile
is compliant.
• Check fuel quality and fuel setting. Use your ethanol fuel tester to verify fuel ethanol content. Take a photo of the fuel
test and attach it to the Ask Polaris case.
• Test ride vehicle in both fuel setting modes. Does issue improve?
Step 2: Connect Digital Wrench:
• Any codes? If YES – Submit a Service Report and Troubleshoot source of codes.
• If NO - Start engine and verify Injector / ignition voltage is 15.5 – 16 VDC. Verify battery voltage is 12.5 – 13.5 and no
voltage drops as throttle lever is applied.
• Use Digital Wrench to verify TPS High Resolution Voltage is within specification at idle.
