BATTERY / ELECTRICAL
9. Remove the two-rear starter motor mount nuts
negative starter cable.
10. During assembly, install the flex drive on to the pinion
assembly and install into the engine mounting
location. Install the pinion assembly fasteners and
torque to specification.
TORQUE
Pinion / Bracket Fasteners:
7 ft-lbs (10 Nm)
11. Loosely fit the gear clamp around the motor, and then
install the flex drive on to the motor shaft.
12. Assemble the starter motor back onto the bracket as
shown in the image. The red (+) starter motor power

ground cable to the post

and 13. Install the washer and nut on the front starter
mounting post. Torque all nuts to specification.

14. Tighten gear clamp but do not over-tighten / strip
teeth
15. Reinstall the following components:
• Y-pipe
• Drive clutch
• Oil tank / clutch guard
• Drive belt
16. Reconnect the battery power cable. Connect the red
(+) cable first, and then connect the black (-) cable.
17. Install the hood and side panels.
