D
The red coolant warning lamp
lights up while you are driving
and you can hear an audible
warning.
314
Possible cause
There is insufficient coolant in the reservoir.
If this warning lamp lights up frequently,
there is a leak in the cooling system.
If the coolant level is correct, the radiator fan
may be faulty.
The coolant temperature has exceeded
125 °C.
Suggested solutions
Top up the coolant immediately, oth-
erwise the engine could overheat
( page 247).
Have the cooling system checked.
If the coolant temperature is below
125 °C, you can drive on to the near-
est qualified specialist workshop, e.g.
a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Avoid placing a heavy strain on the en-
gine (e.g. driving on mountain roads)
and stop/start driving.
Stop as soon as possible and allow
the engine and the coolant to cool
down.
