Possible cause/consequence
You are driving with the bonnet
open.
There is no oil in the engine. There
is a danger of engine damage.
The measuring system is malfunc-
tioning.
You have added too much engine
oil. There is a risk of damaging the
engine or catalytic converter.
The engine oil level has dropped to
a critical level.
The oil contains water.
The engine oil level is too low.

Switch off the engine.
Check the engine oil level and top up the oil
if necessary ( page 245).
