2-12 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
CHECKING AND ADJUSTING
• Place the motorcycle on the side-stand.
• Loosen the rear axle nut 1.
• Loosen the rear brake adjuster nut 2 and torque link nut
(rear) 3.
• Loosen the both chain adjuster lock-nuts 4.
• Tense the drive chain fully by turning both chain adjuster bolts
5.
• Count out 21 pins (20-pitch) on the chain measure the dis-
tance between the two points. If the distance exceeds the ser-
vice limit, the drive chain must be replaced. (8-54)
 Drive chain 20-pitch length:
Service Limit: 323.8 mm (12.75 in)
NOTE:
When replacing the drive chain, replace the drive chain and
sprockets as a set.
