4-20 FI SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES

NOTE:
* Do not disconnect the couplers from ECM, battery cable from
battery, ECM ground wire from engine or main fuse before
confirming the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in mem-
ory. Such disconnection may erase the memorized information
in ECM memory.
* DTC stored in ECM memory can be checked by the special
tool.
* Before checking DTC, read SELF-DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
"USER MODE and DEALER MODE" (4-15 and -16) care-
fully to have good understanding as to what functions are avail-
able and how to use it.
* Be sure to read "PRECAUTIONS IN SERVICING" (4-3)
before inspection and observe what is written there.
• Remove the right frame cover. (8-3)
• Connect the special tool to the dealer mode coupler at the wir-
ing harness, and start the engine or crank the engine for more
than 4 seconds.
• Turn the special tool's switch ON and check the malfunction
code to determine the malfunction part. (4-21)

• After repairing the trouble, start the engine or crank the
engine for more than 4 seconds. If FI indicator is not indicated
the DTC, the malfunction is cleared.
UNDERSTANDING THE DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)
A two-digit DTC is shown through the flashing pattern of the FI indicator light.
The DTCs are displayed from a smaller number to a larger number in that order. When all the applicable
DTCs have been displayed, the displaying of the DTCs repeat from the first one again.
If no DTC is recorded, the FI indicator light will not turned on.
