What Are Microcode Fixes and Patches
The MCF fLJnction has two parts:
• The microcode fix (MCF), described in Chapter 7.
• The microcode patch (called patch). A patch:
Corrects or bypasses a single microcode design defect.
Is a response to a high-severity problem.
Has minimal test requirements.
Has a very limited distribution.
The patch management function is normally used by the IBM Product Engi-
neering (PE), or sometimes by the CE to make changes to the MOSS microcode,
TSS (including HPTSS) microcode, CLOP. These changes are made on the
MOSS disk.
